What’s So Important About This Issue? This issue previewed one of the most memorable heavyweight fights in a decade that was full of them, the Ali-Foreman clash in Kinshasa, Zaire. Ali went on to shock the world again with an eighth-round knockout, joining Floyd Patterson as only the two heavyweights to ever regain the championship.

Cover Story: Foreman and Ali each contributed stories explaining why they would win “The Rumble In The Jungle.” Foreman was counting on a short fight and wrote that he had no doubts about the outcome. “In a way, it is too bad,” Foreman wrote. “Muhammad Ali has been good for boxing and I hate to see him go. But like all else, eras must end. He’s had his run and now it’s my turn.” Ali countered by pointing out that “only five times in Foreman’s career has he gone over five rounds. That doesn’t give him much ring time and there have been questions about his ability to go 10 or 15 rounds against a major opponent.”
